The BISON Children’s Scholarship Fund has been selected as a Charity Connection 2013 recipient. This tuition assistance program for low-income elementary school children will receive a $500 donation from Compu-Mail.
The organization was nominated through our website by Richard Suchan of The Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. As part of the nomination, Suchan explained why he selected this program:
The BISON Fund helps families who have been disillusioned by the public school system/product and who seek alternatives but in many instances are unable to afford private school tuition. The BISON Fund provides tuition assistance to needs eligible families so they have choice in where their children attend school. BISON is a great steward of funds and has very low overhead/operating costs so the vast majority of funds raised go directly for tuition assistance.
Amy Popadick, Executive Director of the BISON Fund, described the impact their efforts can have:
“Thank you very much for this generous gift on behalf of Compu-Mail! The BISON Children’s Scholarship Fund believes that all children, whether rich or poor, should have access to the widest array of educational opportunities as possible. By offering partial tuition assistance, BISON is empowering parents, often for the first time, with the ability to choose the school which best meets their child’s needs.
A quality education can break the cycle of poverty. That’s why it is so important for children to begin their academic instruction in good schools. We are directly investing in Western New York’s next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs when we invest in the education of a young person. Our impact would not be possible without generous supporters like you. Thank you!”
About The BISON Children’s Scholarship Fund
The BISON Children’s Scholarship Fund is a privately funded tuition assistance program for low-income children living in the eight counties of Western New York: Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Wyoming and Orleans. Families awarded a BISON scholarship are able to send their child to a private elementary school of choice. The BISON Fund also provides a limited number of homeschool awards. Thanks to the generosity of the Western New York community and matching grants from the Children Scholarship Fund (CSF), the BISON Children’s Scholarship Fund has grown from helping 200 children in its first year to nearly 1,750 children today. These BISON children attend 78 different private or Catholic schools in the Western New York area.
